Playa Tamarindo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Playa Tamarindo is the surf mecca of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Gaining huge popularity with the movie Endless Summer, Playa Tamarindo is the most visited town on Costa Rica’s northwest Pacific coast. To the north is the town of Playa Grande and to the south is Playa Langosta, both killer surf spots as well. There is an estuary separating Tamarindo and Grande that you can take a boat across. The estuary is part of Las Baulas National Marine Park. Easily accessible, Playa Tamarindo is just an hour from the Liberia International Airport (LIR).
The Beach in Playa Tamarindo
The beach is beautiful white sand and you can walk all the way to Playa Langosta. The wave is small and steady providing the perfect place for beginner surfers to practice. You can easily find a surf instructor among the many shops that line the beach. There are several great restaurants right on the beach as well, perfect for a sunset cocktail or a bite to eat. At the south end of the beach you find several boats anchored close to shore. These boats offer daily fishing and snorkeling trips when you need a break from surfing.

With the population being the biggest in the area there are plenty of options to fit every need and every budget. While beachfront is limited there is an abundance of ocean view homes, condos and commercial opportunities. The condo market is hot in this area because of the bustling town and great rental opportunity. Playa Langosta, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Playa Langosta is just south of Playa Tamarindo, and makes up one of the higher-end neighborhoods in the area. Some call it the “Beverly Hills” of Tamarindo. It sits at the end of the road with only one -way in and out, keeping traffic to a minimum. Many enjoy the busier downtown Tamarindo area but look forward to coming home to the quaint, quiet streets of Langosta. There are also several of the better surf spots in the area in Playa Langosta. Playa Langosta is just an hour from the Liberia International Airport (LIR).
The Beach in Playa Langosta
The southwest-facing beach sits between Playa Tamarindo and Playa Avellana and sees the sun set on the water most of the year. Many of the nicest homes and condos in the area are on the beachfront in Playa Langosta. From rocky reef to the river mouth to the sandy beach to the south, surfers enjoy great waves here. Bustling Tamarindo is just a short walk down the beach, but Langosta beach sees far less traffic and has a tranquil vibe.

There is a small central area with a few hotels, restaurants and a market, offering some nice services to residents and their guests. Playa Langosta has many of the best vacation rental properties in town, offering owners here a solid return on their investment.
